This month we’re catching up with Shak, who is our Works Manager for production. Let’s see what he has to say about his working (and non-working!) life.
Q1 – What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning?
The payslip on Friday???!! Joking aside I have never experienced the Monday blues – I enjoy what I do. The thing that probably motivates me most is heading up a great team, and the atmosphere at work. We work hard but we have fun too.
Q2 – Thinking of IH, what achievement are you most proud of?
It has to be in 2008 when we moved from the 14,000ft² unit at Percy Road to Fordhouse Lane. Moving into a large 68,000ft² unit brought a number of challenges, and I took over the set up of the factory. I set up the machinery, despatch methods and assembly from the new premises. I was only 32 at the time, so it was a big task, but I look around today and am proud of what I achieved.
Q3 – Who is your idol and why?
Well, no pressure but everyone so far has said their dad…so I better join the club! My parents are definitely my idols. I started off with very little, but they always instilled the belief that hard work would pay off and that the right company would recognise that. They basically gave me the motivation and the belief that I would succeed. I have achieved a lot because of that attitude.
Q4 – What is your favourite thing to do outside of work?
When I get home, I like to switch off and relax (my wife will tell you I hear very little when I am relaxing at
home!). I like getting out into the fresh air too, things like gardening and walks. But relaxing definitely wins!
Q5 – Tell us something most people won’t know about you.
As well as being a team leader, I’m a secret pizza supremo! My family own a stonebaked pizza franchise…so I know how to make a lovely pizza. I’m actually a good cook (although not so much at home!).
Thanks Shak – we’ll be expecting extra toppings in the office soon! Why not read Anthony, Nil or Haq’s thoughts too?
